Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi joined Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in year 2006. Before that he had worked in the healthcare sector of Odisha government for a period of four years. He is an alumni from MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, Ganjam. His works in four different healthcare setups (Three Primary Healthcare Centers & one Community Healthcare Centre) were deeply appreciated by his seniors.
After a two years training at Foreign Service Institute (FSI), Dr Sethi joined Embassy of India, Yangon for language study (Burmese) in October 2008. From the period October 2008 to August 2010, he worked in the Information and Culture wing of the Embassy, during the time, many new initiatives were taken to connect to Indian diaspora and to promote Indian culture and information on India. From the period September 2010 to February 2014, Dr Sethi worked as Consul General of India in Mandalay, Myanmar. Hundreds of activities in areas of trade, commerce, culture, healthcare, education, tourism was carried out. The states of Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh visited Myanmar with official and business delegations very often. Dr Sethi worked as the ‘Political and Commercial’ officer in Embassy of India, Rome from March 2014 to July 2017 during which many commercial, tourism, educational engagements were carried out with all important commercial associations of North and South Italy. Bilateral Trade between India and Italy went up by 900 million USD during the FY 2016-17 phase. From August 2017 to April 2019, Dr Sethi worked in the ASEAN Division as Deputy Secretary and Director. From May 19 to July 2020, he oversaw the Central Europe Division. The period saw about ten outward and inward VVIP visits. Dr Sethi assisted in the successful hosting of the fourth edition of ‘India-Central Europe Business Conference’ in Delhi in November 2019. From March 2020 to July 2020, Dr Sethi was deeply engaged in arranging repatriation flights for Indian citizens from Western Europe and Central Europe countries apart from assisting hundreds of foreign tourists stuck up in different parts of India to safely go back to their countries. From August 2020 to September 2024, he worked as Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City. In the four years period, hundreds of activities in domains of trade, investment, higher education, healthcare, culture, tourism, people to people connection were carried out. There was deep engagement with all twenty-nine provinces of Vietnam under the jurisdiction of the Consulate.
Dr Sethi is married to Ms. Swagatika Bhuyan and has two boys- Anshul Kumar and Abhik Kumar. Dr Sethi is from State of Odisha and native place is Khurda Town. He has ardent interest in knowing and solving societal issues concerning women and children. He is a keen believer in proper growth and development of the global youth.
