Surrender of Indian Passport on acquiring of foreign Citizenship
A person who has ceased to be an Indian citizen by virtue of Section 8 or Section 9 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 is required to surrender the documents which he had acquired on the basis of his Indian citizenship to the authorities concerned. Indian Passport is one such document which needs to be surrendered after acquiring foreign nationality
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Applicants residing in the regions of NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND AND WAIKATO, should apply for Consular Services (Passport, PCC, attestation, surrender etc.) should send their applications to Consulate General of India, Auckland, Level 14, 151 Queen Street, Auckland 1010. Applicants residing outside the above regions must apply to High Commission of India, Wellington.

Migration to a New Version of Passport Seva Portal for Passport and PCC Services. In this regard, it is hereby advised that with effect from 3rd October 2025, all applicants must:
1. Complete the online application form on the new GPSP Version 2.0 portal which can be accessed via the following link https://mportal.passportindia.gov.in/mission/
2. Upload an ICAO-compliant photograph, a scanned copy of your signature and all other relevant documents prior to submitting the application (mandatory), else the application will be returned.

Register by clicking on "Register" Link

Online application for surrender of Indian passport can be made at the link https://mportal.passportindia.gov.in/mission/ (Best viewed in Internet Explorer 9.0 and above, Google chrome)

Login with the registered login ID and Password on "User Login" on the link provided above

In the Applicant Home Page, click on "Surrender of Indian Passport" link to file a new application

After submitting the form online, take a printout of the application.

Applicant must upload an ICAO-compliant photograph, a scanned copy of their signature and all other relevant documents prior to submitting the application (MANDATORY).

Application details should exactly match with the information in the Indian passport. Else the application will be rejected

If the applicant is a minor, both parents must sign on the last (declaration page) of the application form.

Completed and signed application form for Surrender of Indian Passport. Please visit: link https://mportal.passportindia.gov.in/mission/ to complete an online registration and print the duly filled application form. (In case of minors both parents should sign- on last page/declaration of the form)

One Latest Photograph 51mm x 51mm or 2 x 2 inches (taken within the last 6 months)- must be pasted on the application form. No additional photo is required.

Each application is processed individually and may be ready with a gap of few days. Applicants are therefore, requested to send separate self-addressed prepaid courier envelope (with tracking facility) for each application to return your passport and document after completion of the process. Please keep record of tracking numbers.

3. The Indian Citizenship Act does not allow dual citizenship. The following acts constitute an offence under the Indian Passport Act, 1967, and may cause uncertain delays/rejections in processing of the applications for Surrender of Indian Passport.
Reissue of Indian Passport after acquiring foreign citizenship.
Travel on the Indian Passport after acquiring foreign citizenship.
Retention of Indian Passport beyond 3 years from the date of acquiring foreign citizenship
Availing of /Applying for any Consular Service on Indian Passport (except Surrender of Indian Passport) after acquiring foreign citizenship.

Personal Cheques or Money Orders/Credit Card are not accepted.
Please put the Surrender Application/ARN number in the reference field. Please do not make a single payment for 2 or multiple applications. Please attach both payment proofs with the required documents, the bank account number of the applicant must be visible on the payment proof to locate the payments.
Fee once received will not be refunded under any circumstances, even if the application is withdrawn by the applicant or services are not provided to the individual if his/her case does not qualify for the service.

For the Applications being sent to CGI Auckland by courier, the applicants are requested to write Complete Sender Address (Applicant’s Address with contact number) on the courier bags.
For the Return Courier bag to be provided with the documents, the applicants are requested to write before sending, Complete Sender Address (Consulate General of India, Citizenship Section, Level-14, 151 Queen Street, Auckland - 1010) and Complete Delivery Address (Applicant’s Address and contact number).
The Courier bags being delivered to CGI Auckland and the Return Courier Bags submitted with the applications to receive the documents, must be with the tracking facility. Please do not send or attach a courier bag without a tracking facility. It is the responsibility of the applicants to note down/retain the tracking details of their both (incoming/outgoing) courier bags. CGI Auckland would be unable to provide the tracking details of the couriers.
6. Status Enquiry
Please note that no separate acknowledgement email is sent for the applications delivered at CGI Auckland via courier or submitted in person over the reception.
No telephonic/e-mail queries regarding receipt or status of applications will be entertained before the time frame limit indicated for processing of the applications.
All the applicants are advised to track their courier bag to check the delivery date of their documents at CGI Auckland and wait for 30 days for the initial processing of the application.

Applicant has submitted the online application. All the applications received at CGI Auckland by courier or in person, are checked and entered in the system for further processing. The online Status will be changed in first 30 days after delivery of your complete documents at CGI Auckland. If the application is received incomplete, you may receive an email in first 30 days to send remaining documents or your documents may be returned in first 30 days. The time frame is counted only from the date, the complete/remaining documents are received.

Approximate Processing time
Processing time for Surrender of Indian Passport is approx. 90 days after receipt of complete documents at CGI Auckland either by courier or submitted in person over the reception.
The processing times mentioned above are indicative only. The above processing time is for the clear-cut cases, whose clearance has been received from competent authorities
Processing time for cases involving retention of Indian Passport beyond 3 Years after acquiring foreign citizenship and/or travel on Indian Passport after acquiring foreign citizenship cannot be prescribed. These cases would be processed consequent upon following due procedures and are subject to approval from the competent authorities.
